and swelling in the groins and testicles, and pains in the loins. The attacks used to come on about once in three months, and lasted for two or three days at a time.^ ^ Condition on admission.?The patient appeared to be well developed and in good health. The scrotal tissues were slightly thickened, and the testicles somewhat enlarged. Occupying the upper part of the scrotum and the inguinal canal on both sides, were elongated swellings presenting all the signs of inguinal hernia. There was an impulse on coughing, and the tumours could be easily reduced, disappearing with a sudden slip into the abdomen. If the ino-uinal canals were blocked by the finger the tumours did not descend when the patient stood up or strained. The lymphatics of cord on both
